Emirates Gas (EMGAS), a subsidiary of the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), marked a milestone on November 27, the day that the nation won the bid to host the World Expo 2020, with the commencement of commercial sales of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a clean and green fuel of choice that supports the ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ vision of the UAE.
EMGAS has commenced operations of its CNG Mobile Filling Unit equipped with 4,869 litres on-board CNG storage, compressor and electronic dispenser. The company will commission its CNG Mother Station in Jebel Ali in December to begin delivery of CNG to potential customers including DP World, Dubai Police and Dubai Airports, among others.
Earlier this year, EMGAS signed an agreement with Dubai Municipality to convert flared biogas to biomethane for use as an automotive green fuel.
Several dedicated CNG Daughter Stations will be installed at the premises of EMGAS customers for quick and efficient distribution of CNG. The seamless supply of CNG through the Daughter Stations will be assured through a fleet of dedicated trailers, which will top up the clean fuel on a regular basis.
Hesham Ali Mustafa, Senior Director – ENOC Gas Marketing & International Business Development and General Manager of Emirates Gas LLC, said: “We have marked a milestone with the commencement of commercial sale of CNG, which serves as a clean and green fuel of choice. The introduction of CNG as an environmentally friendly fuel for the transport sector of the UAE was achieved after considerable investment in research and development. It will serve as an ideal fit to the vision of the UAE leadership to promote sustainable growth and reducing the environmental footprint.
“As Dubai prepares for the World Expo 2020 under the theme, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,’ EMGAS is privileged to support the city’s developmental priorities by providing the cleaner and greener CNG. The popularity of CNG as a fuel of choice will contribute significantly to enhancing efficiency in the transport and energy sectors. We will continue to build a strong and robust CNG refuelling infrastructure in Dubai and beyond.”
Credited with launching CNG in Dubai through a pilot project with RTA in 2006, EMGAS has introduced CNG to fleet users such as Dubai Municipality, DP World, Dubai Airport Authority, Dubai Police and DEWA, among others.
