AMEC agrees &2bn Foster Wheeler takeover

International engineering company AMEC has agreed to acquire engineering design and construction service Foster Wheeler for a recommended &2bn.
AMEC has said earnings from the deal would reach double-digits within a year following completion,which is expected to be in the second half of 2014.
It was also agreed that AMEC will pay 50 per cent of the total in cash and the remaining half in AMEC securities.
The recommended offer has now been unanimously approved by both company's boards.
Samir Brikho,AMEC chief executive,said:"The combination positions us across the whole oil & gas value chain,provides scale in our growth regions and is expected to be double-digit earnings enhancing in the first twelve months."
Revenue dropped by 3 per cent to &3.9bn from &4bn in 2012,although profit before tax rose slightly to &254m from &253m a year earlier.AMEC also reported a"record"order book of &4.1bn for the year.
