Škoda will present the Octavia at the Geneva Motor Show, for the first time with a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) drive. The bi-fuel engine, which runs on natural gas or petrol, produces 5.4 m3 (3,5 kg) CNG per 100 km (97 g CO2/km) and a has a combined-fuel range of up to 1,330 km.
The world premiere for the Škoda Octavia G-TEC is taking place at the start of March, making this the brands’ second natural gas model alongside the Škoda Citigo. The environmentally-friendly engine will be available for the Octavia saloon and Octavia estate.
“The natural gas engine is an important element in the Škoda sustainability strategy and and is now making its way into our best-selling model series,” says Dr. Frank Welsch, Škoda Board Member for Technical Development. “Using CNG technology makes sense, as it combines environmentally-friendly mobility with affordability. The Octavia G-TEC is making our Octavia series even more attractive and eco-friendly.”
The new Octavia G-TEC is powered by a 1.4 TSI turbo petrol engine with an output of 81 kW (110 hp). The G-TEC package includes a number of technological features, such as the Start-Stop System and regenerative braking. The powertrain also meets the Euro6 emission standards valid from September 2014.
The new Octavia G-TEC can manage impressive distances between refuelling: On CNG alone, the vehicle can travel up to 410 km without refuelling. Consumption stands at 5.4 m3 (3,5 kg) natural gas per 100 km, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of just 97 g/km. Distances of up to 920 km can be travelled on petrol. This gives the Octavia G-TEC a total of 1,330 km after one stop at the petrol station.
