Paris Plans CNG and Biomethane for Bus Centers

过滤减压阀Pierre Mongin, CEO of RATP (Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens), and Gérard Mestrallet, Chairman and CEO of GDF SUEZ, have signed a partnership to develop a solution for provisioning RATP bus centers with compressed natural gas (CNG) and biomethane (bio-CNG). This agreement covers a period of three years. RATP aims to have a fleet of up to 20% natural gas buses by 2025.
This partnership will enable GDF SUEZ, through its subsidiary GNVert, to contribute to the development of the natural gas vehicle market, a promising market in France because it is based on a fuel that emits less CO2 and is particle free. It also helps to establish the conditions necessary for the development of the biomethane, a natural gas fuel produced from anaerobic digestion of waste.
RATP and GDF SUEZ will identify in their land holdings in the Île-de-France lands for the deployment of a CNG and bio-CNG refueling solution nearby RATP bus centers. The location of these sites should allow construction of a shared GNVert fueling infrastructure for RATP buses and other fleet vehicles (e.g. freight companies, operators of municipal waste collection, craftsmen, etc.).
As part of this partnership, GNVert will launch studies to adapt several RATP sites to natural gas fueling. The first step will be the Créteil depot which currently hosts 90 CNG buses and where it is proposed to accommodate 220 all natural gas buses by mid 2015.
These developments fit within the context of the 2025 bus RATP plan to build a 100% green fleet by 2025, including electric buses and natural gas buses.
