Earlier this month, Stabilis Energy together with Flint Hills Resources, LLC, opened their joint venture (JV) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) liquefaction facility in George West, Texas. The plant is the first of five LNG facilities announced at the forming of the JV in 2013. The fuel is intended to serve oilfield customers, including transportation applications.
Chart Industries, Inc. supported the successful commissioning and start-up of the JV LNG production facility. The 100,000 gallon per day operation, strategically located at the heart of the Eagle Ford Shale, features a Chart designed and built C100N Standard Liquefaction Plant together with 270,000 gallons of Chart supplied LNG storage capacity and load-out facility.
The plant is producing LNG for high horsepower fuel applications including drilling, pressure pumping, transportation and other oilfield and industrial fuel applications throughout the Eagle Ford Shale.
In October 2014, Stabilis and Flint Hills Resources announced plans for their JV to acquire property in Odessa, Texas for the proposed construction of its second planned Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility. The same-capacity plant will serve high horsepower oilfield fuel applications in the Permian Basin in West Texas.
The JV is also pursuing site purchases in North Dakota (Bakken Shale) and other domestic oilfield markets for LNG production facilities that could begin production between 2016 and 2018.
