Spanish auto manufacturer SEAT has added a compressed natural gas (CNG) model to its Leon family with the introduction of newcomer Leon 1.4 TGI. The vehicle emits 94 grams/km CO2 from a 1.4-litre direct injection, turbocharged engine that can run on either petrol or (CNG).
SEAT says the low CNG consumption and the lower energy price combination, makes the Leon TGI one of the most economical cars around, while still delivering ‘sporty performance’.
The engine in the Leon TGI delivers 81 kW / 110 PS, with the maximum torque of 200 Nm available from as low down as 1,500 rpm. It can travel from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 194 km/h. The bivalent – engineered for CNG and petrol – 1.4 TSI offers around 400 kilometres on CNG alone. The average fuel consumption is 3.5 kg of CNG per 100 kilometres, which equates to 94 grams of CO2 per kilometre. In petrol mode, it provides an additional range of more than 900 kilometres.
If the two CNG tanks with a combined capacity of 15 kg located beneath the luggage compartment and the 50-litre petrol tank are completely full, the Leon TGI achieves a theoretical range of 1,300 kilometres.
The Leon TGI, offered in the five-door and in the estate version ST, is on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
