Tata Motors has launched the Tata Nano CNG emax. The new vehicle is powered by a fuel efficient, state-of-the-art engine, with compressed natural gas (CNG) and Petrol bi-fuel system options. The car has the lowest carbon footprint of 75.6 g/km and is the most fuel efficient car in India with a mileage of 36 km/kg. The Tata Nano CNG emax will now be available across CNG markets like Delhi, Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra and Lucknow.
Tata Motors showcased its emax range at the Horizonext event, held in Pune, in June 2013, with a commitment to launch its CNG range in a phased manner, in FY 14. The Nano CNG emax is the first of the five brands in the emax series of CNG cars.
Unveiling the Nano CNG emax at the launch ceremony – Mr. Ankush Arora- Sr. Vice President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (Commercial), Tata Motors Ltd., said, “At Tata Motors, the core philosophy behind the launch of every new vehicle is anticipating what our customers need and blending it with the best-in-class technology and design engineering. This helps us arrive at an end product that suits the inherent automotive needs of our customers in a holistic way. From its inception, the Nano has been a path-breaking invention and the CNG version only adds to that and also underlines our commitment to be a sustainable automotive player.”
Fuel Management
Tata says the Nano CNG emax is India’s most fuel-efficient car with globally acclaimed CNG kit components installed. The sequential gas injection system is calibrated with an intelligent advanced Engine Management System (EMS) for smart switching between CNG and gasoline fuel systems. This allows the vehicle to sense when the driver needs more power and thus, automatically shifts to gasoline mode. Switching between CNG and petrol driving modes on-the-fly is effortless, thanks to a push-button fuel type selector. Additionally, the Tata Nano CNG emax can also be started on CNG and not on petrol like other conventional CNG systems.
The car is equipped with leak detection sensors and interlock sensor that automatically ensures that the engine is switched off during CNG gas filling.
CNG cylinders are fitted under the front seats which do not intrude into passenger or luggage space – an innovation in this vehicle segment.
Performance
With the CNG technology, the Nano CNG emax offers a touring range of more than 150 km using CNG, in addition to the existing touring range of 375 km with petrol, with fuel economy of 36 km/kg and with a warranty of up to 60,000 kms or 4 years (whichever is earlier), the overall proposition results in low cost of ownership.
Price
The Tata Nano CNG emax price range starts at Rs. 2.45 Lakhs (USD 3,965), ex-showroom – Ahmedabad for the Nano CX and goes up to Rs. 2.72 Lakhs (USD 4,402), ex-showroom – Ahmedabad, for the Nano LX.
